Amber Nicole Hilger 1995-2017

Amber Nicole Hilger was born on November 6, 1995. Just as her name signifies a spark of light, she brought life to many. Her unforgettable laugh, her contagious smile and her zest for life. That light continues to shine in our lives and in heaven.

She leaves behind many broken hearts… her beautiful six-year-old daughter, Matty Reed Johnson; sister, Alyssa Hilger (Montville); and brothers, Mason Johnson, Ben Johnson (Montville), Owen Hilger (Rocky River); her father, Frederick Hilger, III (Rock Creek); her mother, Darcy Johnson (Perry); step-father, Matt Johnson (Montville); grandparents, Frederick (II) and Linda Hilger (Ashtabula), Gerald and Pamela Stricker (Lima, OH), J.W. Butler (Braymer, MO), Dan and Connie Johnson (Madison). She is survived by two great-grandparents, Betty Mills (Canton), and Gerald Brunner (Chardon). Her uncles include: John Butler (Cameron, MO), Jacob Butler (Harrison, AR) and Joshua Stricker (Cincinnati); aunts include: April Hilger (Ashtabula), Keena Stricker (Cincinnati), and Kara Stricker (Cincinnati). Her uncle, Mark Johnson, preceded her in death.

Amber will be missed many more of her family and friends.

Amber died of a drug overdose on April 6, 2017. She struggled with this horrible addiction for several years desiring to be free from the bondage of heroin. We write this not to dishonor her memory but to expose the darkness of drug addiction to light that, somehow, some way, this hideous disease can be defeated. We choose not to allow shame, guilt or embarrassment to keep us from exposing the truth. Our prayer is that Amber’s death, Amber’s life, would somehow save another life.

She will forever be our beautiful Amber… full of life, full of joy. There is no way to express the heartache we feel, how much she will be missed.

A celebration of Amber’s life will begin at 2 pm, Saturday, April 15 at Perry First Baptist Church, 3918 Main St., Perry, Ohio  44081. All are welcome to celebrate with us.

In lieu of flowers, that family suggests donations to the Matty R. Johnson Benevolent Fund, set up for Amber’s daughter. Donations to that account can be made at any Key Bank location.
