Charles " Jack" Jackson Wachs Jr.

Charles “Jack” Wachs Jr, 88, of Mentor, Ohio went to his heavenly home, Saturday, December 9, 2017.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday December 15, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 667 Mentor Ave. Painesville. Family and friends may call from 4-6 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Jack was born November 21, 1929 in Willoughby, Ohio to Jack and Celia Wachs. At the age of seven he moved to Mentor, Ohio and was a life long resident.  He was captain of the Mentor High School Football team and graduated in 1949.  He joined the Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict, he sailed on the U.S.S. Roosevelt.  On March 26, 1955 he married Betty Kathryn Hill in Chagrin Falls, OH.  His long career included test driving and racing automobiles, working on race car engines and owning and operating Wachs Disposal, Inc.  Later in life he was captain of Got-Em-On Charters and was considered a master of catching perch, walleye and king salmon, winning numerous tournaments across the Great Lakes region. He also raised beagles and basset hounds and loved being out with his dogs.  He was a successful hunter of rabbits, ducks and big game and had many mounted trophies to prove it.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling, poker, refurbishing old cars, watching football and auto racing.

Jack is survived by Betty Wachs of Mentor, son Daniel Wachs and wife Lori of Madison, OH, daughter Karen Sergey of Pawling, NY; granddaughter Jaimie Wachs of Geneva, OH; his sister Geraldine “Patty” Kato of Mentor, OH and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Celia, his infant daughter Cheryl and his grandson Zachary Wachs.
