Dan Grill, age 70, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016, after a brief illness.   He was born February 26, 1946 in Akron, Ohio. 

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Mary Carol, son Joshua (Anne Marie), daughter Ellen Narain (Garin), and grandchildren Naya, Desmond, and Elliott.  He is also survived by his brothers Jack (Evelyn) and Jerry (Darla), sister-in-law Madeline Grill, sister Ellen Miletti, and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ellen and siblings, Richard and Ilene.

He served as a corpsman in the U. S. Coast Guard and graduated from Akron University.  He earned a master’s degree in Education from Edinboro University while teaching at Riverside High School, from which he retired in 1998 after 26 years.  In 1981 he was selected as a Fulbright scholar and taught Psychology at Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College in Leicester, United Kingdom, for 1 year.  He was a member of  St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Painesville and was a lifetime member of the Elks #549.  He fully enjoyed life.  When not spending time with his grandchildren, he was an avid reader, chef, traveler, and walker. 

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.  Mass will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State St., Painesville.   Please meet at the church before services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lake Metroparks or the National Parks Service.
