Dewey J. Hiner

Funeral Services for Dewey J. Hiner, age 94, of Painesville will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, July 1st at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.  Family and friends may call 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, prior to the service.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Dewey was born January 18, 1923 to Dewey J. and Eula Mae (Kershner) Hiner in Cass, West Virginia.  He passed away June 28, 2017 at Lake Med Nursing Home in Painesville.

He was born and raised in Cass WV.  and he lived in Painesville for over 50 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.  He was a member of the Masonic Temple Lodge No. 28 in Painesville. For a while he worked in the shipyards in Maryland and then went on to work for the State of West Virginia Forestry Service.  He attended trade school which led to a job at Lubrizol where he worked for 26 years, retiring in 1989.  Dewey also worked for the old Lake Theater and Mentor Drive-In as a projectionist.  He and his wife, Bertha, ran a concession stand at many fairs and festivals around the Lake County area for many years.  His hobbies include, hunting, fishing, traveling, golf and he loved spending time with his granddaughters.

Dewey is survived by his son, David (Nancy) Hiner of Painesville; granddaughters, Taylor and Kailey Hiner of Painesville; daughter in law, Joan Hiner of Maryville, TN.; brother, Edsel Hiner of Delaware.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha (Gum) Hiner in 2012; son, Dewey “Jerry” Hiner; his parents; brothers, Paul Hiner and John Thomas Hiner; sister, Ruth Hiner.
