Ethel (Sedlak) Callaghan, 85, of Painesville Township, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Symphony at Mentor. She was born at home on April 4, 1931 in Loyalhanna, Pennsylvania, a daughter of John and Anna Sedlak.
She married William (Bill) I. Callaghan in 1952 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania where they started a family and they lived together for the next 61 years, mostly in Lake County, until Bill’s death in 2013. She was a legendary fixture in the JCPenney stockroom in Mentor where she worked for many years.
Ethel loved to sing, sometimes to the early morning annoyance of her kids, but most of all she loved her babies. Ethel was mom to eight children, all of whom survive her; William (Betsy) Callaghan, of Atlanta, Georgia; Susan Goetz of Euclid; Karen (David) Timko of Batesville, AR; Patrick (Karen) Callaghan of Columbus, OH; Mary (Charles) Rice of Columbus, OH; Michael Callaghan of Spruce Pine, NC; Teresa (Rick) Edmonds of Painesville and Kelly (Paul) Davison of Ontario, Canada. She also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Paul Sedlak and one sister, Mildred Shabella.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Michael and Andrew Sedlak; and eight sisters, Anna Shugars, Mary Sedlak, Veronica Sedlak, Margaret DeMine, Katherine Baron, Helen Molchan and Pauline Sedlak and Betty Meloy.
Mass of Christian burial for Ethel will be on Friday, August 26, 12:00 PM, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 9925 Johnny Cake Ridge Rd., Concord Township, Ohio. Friends will be received from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 25 at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery.
