It is with both sadness and joy that we, the family of Laddie Acheson, announce his passing. Sadness at our loss but joy because he was our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Laddie was born April 24, 1921 in Amherst, Ohio to Donald W Acheson and Isabelle Cullen Acheson. He passed away on July 30, 2017. While his given name was James Ladis Acheson, he always went by Laddie. He moved to Painesville, Ohio in 1930 and had made this area his home ever since. He was a 1940 graduate of Harvey High School, where he was a standout athlete, for which he was inducted into their athletic hall of fame. After high school, he played football for Paul Brown at The Ohio State University until the advent of Pearl Harbor. He set his scholarship aside and joined the Marine Corps. He was eventually stationed in San Diego, California, Camp Pendleton, where he was assigned to the Admirals' Staff for the duration of the war. While stationed there, he continued to play football for the Marine Corps, the San Diego Dons and the Los Angeles Bombers. Also, it was in California that he met Mary, to whom he would be married for over 60 years.  After the war and his discharge from the Marine Corps, he married Mary M. Miller of Toledo, Ohio on November 9, 1946.  Shortly after that he began a career in the construction trades, belonging to the Carpenters Union Local 95 for over 70 years and supervising for companies like Debartolo, Esche, Casement Homes and Sidley's Precast. After retiring in 1984 he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world. He also worked as a starter and ranger at Painesville Country Club until 2014.
