The family will receive friends for a memorial service for James R. Gaines, Saturday, April 14th, 11:30am, at Calvary Fellowship Baptist Church, 727 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio. A luncheon will follow. Pastor Doug Reeder will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at the Mentor Cemetery.
Jim was born August 11, 1936 in Painesville, Ohio and went to be with his Lord April 6, 2018 while at the Mapleview Country Villa, Chardon, Ohio under the care of Bella Care Hospice.
Jim worked many years delivering milk for Euclid Race Dairy until they closed. Afterwards, working at Proficient Machining in Mentor performing maintenance and shipping / receiving until his retirement.
Jim enjoyed camping, woodworking, and geocaching with his daughter Sherry. His geocache name was PAPA NewCar. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy (nee Potocer) Gaines of Mentor, whom he married Oct. 25, 1957, and was a loving father and grandfather to Sherry (Bruce) Murray of Concord, Karen (Mark) Biggs of Mentor, and Jim (Jeanne) Gaines of Streetsboro, eight grandchildren; Kristy (Kevin) Keeper, Emily (Phil) Slagle Owens, Joy Biggs, Jeffrey (Julie) Biggs, Haley, Madeline, Alyssa, and Colin Gaines, and eight great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Solon and Genevieve (nee Prentice) Gaines, brother, Lawrence Gaines.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Calvary Fellowship Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
