Mass of Christian Burial for John J. “Jack” Haggerty, age 88, of Mentor will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 24th at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, OH.  Family and friends will be received 4:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 23rd at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, OH.  Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Painesville.

Mr. Haggerty was born November 20, 1928 on Cleveland’s West side and passed away August 20, 2017 at Brookdale of Mentor.

Jack served in the United States Army.  He was an auditor for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company retiring in 1991 after 39 years of service.  He was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. 

He was a quiet, gentle and very generous man, who will truly be missed.   Jack loved attending plays and musicals at Playhouse Square, attending Cleveland Orchestra concerts, bowling, reading murder mysteries and golf.  He loved traveling and took many trips all over the United States & Canada.  He also enjoyed watching his nieces and nephew perform in plays and concerts throughout their high school and college years. 

Jack was an uncle and godfather to many:  He is survived by his nieces and nephew, Therese Marie Ryan, of Eastlake, Margaret Ann (Margy) Ryan of Painesville, Mary Pat Keyes of Painesville, John F. Ryan Jr. of Mentor and Stephanie (Jason) Kristo of Mentor;  “sister” Zita (David) Nash; sister-in-law Judy Ryan Lustik; great nephews and nieces, Bart (Katie) Keyes of Columbus; Molly (Steve) Fusaro of Twinsburg; Kerry Ann (Jason) Jonke of Mentor; Patrick, Morgan and Bridget Kristo of Mentor; great-great nieces and nephews, Benjamin, Samuel, Eliza, Annabella, Lilly, and Charlotte; beloved cousins, Lorraine Murphy, Bernadette Morgan, Frank (Kay) Sexton, Larry (Janice) Sexton, Cecelia Sexton and Judy (Jim) Duda.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene (Cousins) Haggerty; sisters, Marie Haggerty (Donald) Graf and Alice P. (John F.) Ryan; nephew, Barton N. Keyes; “sister” Margaret (David) Best; “brothers”, John (Buddy) Parker and William Parker; cousins, Colletta (Sexton) & Edward Ryan, James P. Murphy, Joseph Morgan. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jack’s memory to St. Augustine’s Hunger Center, 2486 West 14th Street, Cleveland, OH 44113 or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.
