Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Valentine Jerin, age 86, will be held 10:00 AM Friday, February 24th, 2017 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church 8540 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Family and friends will be received from 4-7 Thursday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave. Painesville. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
Joseph was born at home (1001 East 66th Place), February 13, 1931 in Cleveland, to Frank and Ivana (Koncan) Jerin. He passed away February 18, 2017 at Kindred Lake Med Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Painesville.
He served the US Army in Korea. When he went overseas he became a ruler of 180th Meridian on the USNS General R. L. Howze. In January of 1952 he was with the 17th Armored Division as a sergeant in tanks. After being discharged he came home and was an auto body repairman for over 25 years. He also helped to build homes for all his family, did some farming, and then retired at age 55. He enjoyed antique cars and showed them at car shows.
Joseph is survived by his nephews; Frank Jerin of Euclid, William (Laurel) Jerin of Mentor, and Robert (Antoinette) Jerin of Euclid; nieces, Janet (Michael) Abels of England and Barbara (William) Pavlik of Mentor. He also leaves many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Jennie (Koncan) Jerin; brothers, Frank Jerin, Max “Phil” Jerin, and sister, Jean Jerin Collier.
