Lois Murphy Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Lois (Oliver) Murphy, 89, will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 20th at St Mary’s Church Painesville.  Family and friends may call from 4:00-8:00 PM Monday, March 19th at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Lois was born March 31, 1928 in Gallup, New Mexico to Walter F. and Elizabeth (Wilmes) Oliver.  She passed away, March 9, 2018 in Mentor. 

Lois moved to Willoughby, Ohio in 1941.   She graduated Willoughby Union High School in 1945, attended Ursuline College, and graduated St John’s Hospital of Nursing in Cleveland in 1949.  She married George on October 8, 1949 and they lived in Painesville until 2001, then move to Mentor.  Lois and George were married for 60+ years.

Lois was employed by Lake County Memorial Hospital (Lake Hospital Systems) in obstetrics.  She later worked for Dr. Curran’s Office.   She retired from the office at Lake Catholic High School after working there 29 years.  She retired in 2007.   Lois was a member of St. Mary Church in Mentor.  Before moving to Mentor, she was very active at St. Mary Church in Painesville, the PTO (Mother’s Club) and the Cub Scouts - Troop 64.  She loved all types of needlework and going to the casino. 

Lois is survived by her five sons, Tom (Jeanne) Murphy, Tim (Linda) Murphy, Pat (Lisa) Murphy, Marty (Terry) Murphy and Kevin (Patty) Murphy; twelve grandchildren, Greg (Tara), Lauren (Nate) Dubin, Melissa, Erin, Erick, Michael, Mallory, Jamie, Blaire, Colin, Kristi and Kerry; twelve great grandchildren, Camron, Justin, Mackenzie, Mason; Merrill, Maggie, Maisie, Morgan, Daniella, Connor, James, and Brendon.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Murphy (2010); daughter, Karen Murphy (1996); brother, Jack Oliver (2018); and her parents.
