Alice “Joyce” Johnston, 91, of Chardon, passed away July 25, 2019 at Chardon Health Care. Private family services will be held.
Joyce was born July 13, 1928 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania to Frank and Nora (Kelly) Kennedy.
Joyce was the vice president of nursing at Sewickley Valley Hospital in Sewickley, Pennsylvania for much of her professional career. She was also appointed to the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and served in that capacity for several years. She enjoyed spending time in her cottage at Conneaut Lake surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Barbara Lugo of Mentor, Patricia Johnston of Maryland, and Suzanne (Bob) Baker of Mentor; sons, Gary Johnston of Pittsburgh and Robert Johnston of North Carolina; sister, Jean Armstrong Chandler of Florida; grandchildren, Scott Jones (Rose), Michael Jones (Mu), Melissa Jones, Nicole Duraney (Matt), Stephen Crespin, Heather Crowell, Michael Johnston (Rachel), Ashlee Johnston, Troy Johnston, Amanda Faulk, Matthew Vogt, Christopher Vogt, Ryan Johnston, Chelsea Johnston, Jeffery Johnston, Kaylee Flynt (Jordan), Michael Baker (Christy), Kristen Althouse (Drew), Stephanie Zublick (Jamie), and Robby Johnston. There are 25 surviving great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son James Johnston; sisters, Dorothy McNaughton and Joanne Simon; brother Warren Kennedy; one great-grandchild, and her parents.
