Family and friends may call 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 30th at Mulqueeny-Spear Funeral Home, 312 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio.
Mr. Valocchi was born May 11, 1929 in Painesville and passed away August 27, 2018 at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.
Eugene was anxious to serve his country, so he lied about his age and enlisted in the U. S. Army at age 16. Once his accurate age was found out, he was discharged. He then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force at age 18 and proudly served his country. He was a member of ELKS Lodge 549 and the Knights of Columbus.
At age 17, Eugene started working with his dad and uncle at Valocchi Construction. In 1959 he became the majority shareholder in the company with his dad, Vitale Valocchi and uncle, James Valocchi. In 1962 he bought the company from his dad and uncle and became the sole owner, president and CEO, working in Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania until 1983. That year, he, Jeff Nock, and Albert Galati started Terrace Construction. Gino was President until his retirement in 1991.
He loved his family above all else. He enjoyed cruising, traveling, going to the casinos, working in his yard and relaxing in the sun. He also enjoyed bowling in leagues at the former Mar-Val Lanes.
Gino is survived by his love of 40 years, Katy Goodman; daughters, Tina Caniglia, and Nannette (Tom) Keils; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Perno, Antonio Caniglia; great-grandson, Aiden Bregitzer; sister, Anna Sekki and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Vitale Valocchi; brother, Tony Valocchi; son-in-law, David Caniglia, brother in law Dale Sekki
