Mass of Christian Burial for Frederick, “Fred”, “Cashe”, Cashmere Jr. of Fairport Harbor will be held 10:00 AM, Friday August 10th, 2018, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 523 Plum Street, Fairport Harbor. Family and friends will be received Thursday, August 9th, 4-7 PM at Mulqueeny-Spear Funeral Home, 312 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor.
Fred was born February 9, 1933 in Painesville, OH to Frederick and Marian (Nestor) Cashmere. He passed away at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, August 4, 2018.
Fred served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Painesville and Fairport and was known as “Mailman Freddie”. After retiring from the post office, he drove for Laketran.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, VFW Post 7754, the American Slovenian Club in Fairport Harbor, the Hungarian Culture Club in Fairport and the Lions Club. Fred played football under Woody Hayes at The Ohio State University for one year. He was involved in track, football and basketball at Fairport Harding High School. He also enjoyed playing bocce, bowling, and golf.
Fred is survived by his son, Phillip Cashmere of Fairport; daughters, Karen (Marty) Makela of Painesville, Kathy (Sam) Hansen of Chardon; grandchildren, Maribeth, Emily, Natalie, Jennifer, Christine, Brian, Joshua, and Noah; great grandchildren Kiley, Jeramey, Audrey, Joshua, Claire, Mackenzie, Presley, and Logan; and special friend, Aileen Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey (Mora) Cashmere in 2006; son, Fred Cashmere III; and his parents.
