Lucille R. Komendat, age 96, of Fairport Harbor was born to Rocco and Antoinette (Stinziano) Cardina in Painesville on November 20, 1921. She passed away peacefully on August 17, 2018 at her condo, surrounded by her family.
Lou lived a wonderful and long life and loved to dance, roller skate, work her puzzle books, and be with friends. She was a very happy and caring person. She took pride in keeping her home and herself just so.
She married Anthony (Tony) Komendat on January 16, 1954. He passed away in 1988.
The second to the oldest of six children, Lucille attended St. Mary’s School. She worked at the Industrial Rayon (IRC Fibers) in the Coning Department for 39 years, retiring in 1980. She also worked at Lake County Memorial Hospital serving the patients their food and making them happy. She was a member of VFW Post #7754, American Slovenian Club in Fairport and OPERS.
She is survived by her loving sisters, Jerry (Joseph) Moritz, her care giver, and Rose (Richard) Shupp. She also leaves nephew, Michael Moritz, nieces, Jeanna (Stan) Dobrzenicki, Linda (Lee) Miller; great nieces Keri (Brad) Kish, Jamie Miller; great-great niece, Rylee Kish; great-great nephew, Evan Kish and many wonderful cousins and friends.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Nancy (Sulo) Oinonen; brothers, Joseph J. Cardina and Lee (Margaret) Cardina; and her companion, Jerry Bergem in 2004.
A Mass celebrating Lucille’s life will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 523 Plum Street, Fairport Harbor. Please meet at 9:30 AM, Mass will begin at 10:00 AM. Rev. Peter Mihalic will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
