Winifred "Winnie C. Cook

A Mass of Christian Burial for Winifred C. “Winnie” Cook age 90 will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday December 5, 2018 at St Mary Catholic Church 242 N. State St, Painesville, Ohio. Family and friends will be received Tuesday December 4th at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, from 4:00-7:00 PM. Entombment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

Winnie was the daughter of Eugene and Helen (Vanta) Bender, born in Cleveland Ohio on March 18, 1928. She entered into eternal rest Friday November 30, 2018 at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.

Winnie had deep love for her faith and her family. She was a reverent Catholic with a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary praying the rosary daily. Her family was the most important to her, she especially enjoyed the times she shared with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She retired from the Lake County News Herald in 1995 after many years of service.  Her career started with delivering newspapers and ending up as Television Editor and reporter. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Painesville. She was an avid reader.

Winifred is survived by her son, Christopher (Ludovica) Cook; her daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Dunne; son in law, Timothy van Berkum; grandchildren David (Cara) Cook, Jeffrey (Kate) Cook, Steven (Jenna) Dunne; great grandchildren, Francesca, Teresa, David, Rose, Gabriel, Graham and Maggie.  Winifred was preceded in death by her husband George Francis Cook; daughter, Mary Beth van Berkum; her parents, and brothers Eugene and Norman Bender.
