WILLIAM "BILL" HAWKINS
October 5, 1958 - March 12, 2024
Bill Hawkins, 65, of Painesville, passed away Tuesday, March 12, at University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center.
Bill was born October 5, 1958, in Cleveland, a son of Joe and Nancy Hawkins. He was a graduate of Mayfield High School (1977) and attended John Carroll University as a record-setting member of the baseball team. He later went on to complete his dream by attaining a degree in Sports Management at California University of Pennsylvania after serving as the general manager of the former Severance Athletic Club in Cleveland Heights for over 20 years.
Athletics were a big part of Bill's life. After his career at JCU, he went on to coach youth baseball in the Chardon area for over 10 years to stay involved with sports while simultaneously inspiring all those around him to live their lives to the fullest.
Bill always looked for opportunities to give more than he was given. He felt joy in helping and seeing others thrive—from sharing his gardening knowledge to supporting special needs and service programs to simply creating smiles every day. He loved to make others laugh, whether it was riddles, lighthearted practical jokes, pranks on his coworkers, and most of all, "dad jokes." Above all, Bill cherished moments spent with his family, excitedly watched them continue to grow, and will always live on in comical stories and loving memories.
Bill is survived by his son Kyle (Abby) Hawkins of Madison, WI, his daughter Shaleigh Hawkins of Chester, SD, his son Lucas (Olivia) Hawkins of St. Louis, MO, and his son Reilly Hawkins, of Chicago, IL; one granddaughter, Briana Hawkins, and the upcoming arrival of twin grandchildren; two brothers Tom (Lisa) Hawkins of Broadview Heights, and Jimmy Hawkins of Wickliffe; his father Joe Hawkins of Painesville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy; his brothers Michael, Timothy, and Joseph; and his sisters Susan and Patricia.
Family and friends will be received from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio 44077. A Time for Sharing will start at 5:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chromosome 18 Registry & Research Society, 7155 Oakridge Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78229.
