Our hero moved on to better hunting and fishing grounds, awaiting the day when his full family unites with him once again. Charles C. Howard ("Charlie"), age 81, passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2023 with his loving wife of 60 year and family by his side. While health challenges slowed him down a bit as of late, he is now chasing deer, catching walleye, sipping some bourbon, and watching over his family that loved him beyond measure.

Charlie was born July 20, 1941 in Ashtabula, Ohio. He joined the Painesville Police Department on July 1, 1964, and spent the next 33 years proudly serving his community, retiring as Executive Lieutenant on December 25th, 1996. Following retirement, Charlie continued to serve his community for the next 15 years by driving LakeTran to help those in need.

Charlie met the love of his life (Ruthie) when they were just 16 and 14 years old. They married on August 4th, 1962, lived the most wonderful life, raised three children and many grandchildren, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past August. Beyond spending time with his family and friends, Charlie loved spending time at his Grand River cabin, hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors.

Charlie is survived by his wife Ruth (Bishop) Howard, children, Brandi Holland, Trevor (Debbie) Howard and Charla (Mike) Decaro; grandchildren, Timothy (Mary) Howard, Alexis (Macully) Holland, Haley Holland, Sydney Howard, Skyler Howard, Emilia Decaro, and Alexandria Decaro; sister, Sharon Connolly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo C. and Dorothea (Gill) Howard.

Family and friends may call Friday March 3, 2023 from 4-6 PM at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 667 Mentor Ave. Painesville, with services following at 6 :00 PM. In lieu offlowers, the family recommends contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
