Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Lee Messer, age 65, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 11, 1959, in Columbus, Ohio, to Troy and Mary (Hodge) Messer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kerri (Barber) Messer; his children, Charles J. Messer, Amanda Messer (ex-husband, Carmen Stanziale), and Maryann (Jason) Ziga; and his cherished grandchildren: Alex and Mark Messer; Mariah, Tyler, Brandon, Charles, and Ayden Stanziale; and Noah and Keira Ziga. He is also survived by his beloved in-laws: mother-in-law Jane Hill; brother-in-law Floyd Barber; sisters-in-law Shelley (Rob) Chaffin, Jenny (Ed) Leason, and Michaelean (Rob) McCauley; and his niece, Cortney Babic, along with many other nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine (Jeff) Frantz.

Chuck honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and remained a proud patriot throughout his life. He had a deep love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed playing his guitars, camping, relaxing around a campfire, playing board games and foosball, and watching Western movies and classic TV shows. Chuck had a deep faith in Jesus and loved to share the Gospel with others. He immensely loved his wife and family. He cherished times when the whole family was together, laughing and making memories.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave, Painesville, OH 44077. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Mentor Municipal Cemetery, 6881 Hopkins Rd, Mentor, OH 44060.

The family warmly invites family and friends to join them for a lunch reception following the burial at Victory Baptist Church, 8911 Lakeshore Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060.

Chuck will be remembered for his strength, faith, loyalty, patriotism, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
