Delbert Lintala age 92 One of the "Greatest Generation" Born February 9, 1923 and Died peacefully at home October 17, 2015 A Navy veteran of World War II, Delbert served on escort carrier USS Makin Island CVE-93 and Squadron VC- 84 which took part in the invasions of Leyte, Luzon, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He received five battle stars and a letter of commendation for his service. Delbert served on the Fairport Harbor Village Council 1963 to 1973. He was Mayor of Fairport Harbor from 1973 to 1987. During this time, he negotiated with the B. & O. Railroad for the construction and relocation of Water Street, he negotiated agreement with Lake County Commissioner for advanced wastewater treatment, and performed over 500 weddings. He was also employed at Diamond Alkali/Shamrock, CETA and YTPA County Programs. Delbert was a member of the Fairport Harbor VFW Post 7754, Hungarian Culture Club, USS Makin Island Reunion Committee, and Escort Carrier Sailors and Airmen Association. He also sang with the Diamond Alkali Men's Chorus which performed in northeast U.S. and Canada. His hobbies included designing and constructing stage props for the Fairport Dance Academy, and he enjoyed classical music and opera. Surviving family members: Dale Lintala (Debra), Cheryl Hill, Eric (Cheryl) Lintala, Grandchildren: Nicole (Dan) DeBiase, Erin Hill (Mark Mondville), Nicholas Lintala, Derek Lintala, Kristen Thompson, Lauren (Derek) Sylvia, and Great Grandchildren: Levian Mondville, Elijah Mondville, Anthony DeBiase, Tristan DeBiase, Gavin Sylvia, Grayson Sylvia. Deceased Family members: Wife of 57 years, Julia Lintala, and son Douglas Lintala, son-in-law, Thomas Hill. Services will be Thursday at 11:00 am at the Mulqueeny Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 312 Eagle St. Fairport Harbor. Family and friends may call from 5-8 Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Painesville In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Hospice of Mentor
