It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis (Denny) Paul Mauk, who was embraced by the love of his family, as he departed this world peacefully, on August 27. He was Born in Gross Point, Michigan and was 74 years old. Denny was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose presence lit up every room he entered.
Denny was known far and wide for his legendary storytelling and sense of humor. His contagious laugh and warm smile were as unforgettable as the unique character he was. Always the life of the party, Denny was a fun-loving and helpful friend, whose company was cherished by many.
He was confident and fearless and a true serial entrepreneur. Denny left an indelible mark on a variety of industries. His ventures included Jack's Pizza, Double "J" Saloon, Finnegan's Restaurant, Pizza 4-U, Pizza Cove, Harbor Town Bar & Grill, Floormaster, and Late Night Janitorial. His passion for cars and motorcycles was as illustrious as his entrepreneurial spirit. He was always 15 minutes early and arrived in a clean car.
While our hearts are heavy with loss, we take solace in Denny’s own words: "I had a great life and don’t want people to mourn me or to be sad." He encouraged everyone to celebrate life with simple joys — a pizza, coffee and a doughnut, dinner and a movie, ice cream, or by giving someone a big hug, and, as he would insist, "for God's sakes, get your car washed!" Above all, Denny reminded us to count every day as a blessing. Denny’s memory will forever be cherished and celebrated by all who knew and loved him. May we continue to honor his legacy by embracing life with the warmth, humor, and love he so generously shared with the world.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Lorraine E. (Pohto) Mauk, with whom he built a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they raised a family that was the center of his world, including his son, Paul Mauk, Dennis W. Mauk and daughters, Shannon Mauk (Dave Pillar) and Shawna Taylor (Neil). His legacy continues with his six grandchildren: Cierra, Megan, Jordan, Chad, Mia, and Finnegan, whom he adored beyond measure.
He is also survived by his sisters Joy Kramer and Twilla Gosky; sister and brother in laws, Rebecca White, Roberta Brown, Jeannette Hamlett (Jack), Donna Mulqueeny (Jay), Johnny Pohto (Jen), Gary Pohto, Ray Pohto (Shelly), Beth Garverick (Kelly) Mike Pohto (Liisa) and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Denny was the beloved son of the late Paul and Pauline Mauk and was predeceased by his revered brother, John C. Mauk, brother-in-law Walter Gosky, and his son, Dennis W. Mauk.
A service to honor Denny’s unique life will be held on Tuesday September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Church, located at 242 N. State St., Painesville, OH 44077. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations in memory of Denny be made to The Sub Zero Mission, 1760 North Ridge Road, Painesville Township, Ohio 44077 or Lake Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Blvd. E, Mentor, OH 44060.
