Obituary

"A life well lived"

Denton M. Albright Jr., PhD., 92, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 31, 2022. He was born on June 26, 1929, in Rochester, PA, to his parents, Denton M. Albright, Sr. and Ethel Varner Albright. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois M. (Webster) Albright of 68 years, his daughter (Linda Albright), his son and daughter-in-law (Mark and Barbara Albright), his grandson (Adam Albright), granddaughter (Marybeth Albright), sister, Mary Lautanen, many cherished nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Louise Hall, and brother-in-law, Mark Webster. He is preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Dwyer, brother, Dr. George A. Albright, his sister-in-law Dolly, and brother-in-law, Robert Lautanen.  After his graduation from Crafton High School, Denton began his college education at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA, where he graduated Cum Laude with majors in chemistry and mathematics. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, serving as the fraternity treasurer and house manager.

He continued his college education at Carnegie Institute of Technology, now known as Carnegie Mellon University, for his graduate degree. During his time as a graduate student, he aided his professors by assisting in the instruction of the under-graduate chemistry laboratory. He received a full tuition Fellowship from the Eastman Kodak Company. He graduated with a Master of Science in chemistry and Doctorate in mathematics. Later in his career, he attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Business and earned an MBA degree in Business Administration while working full time.

In 1950, Denton met the love of his life and future wife, Lois M. Webster, while in graduate school. A loving romance blossomed into a beautiful, happy, and wonderful marriage on November 1st, 1953. Denton and Lois spent a marriage filled with love and joy for 68 years.

For his professional endeavors, Denton began at the Sun-Oil Company Research and Development Laboratory in Marcus Hook, PA. After a few years at the Sun-Oil Company, he accepted new employment with the US Steel Research and Development Chemical Division (Aristech) in Monroeville, PA. His most notable professional achievements were several US patents and two chemical journal publications.

He was also a physics professor at Boyce Community College for 10 years in the evenings. He was member of several professional chemical societies and activities, the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Chemical Society for 70 years, and the Society in Analytical Chemistry of Pittsburgh, in both organizations, he served as treasurer, secretary, and chairman. He was also a volunteer for the Pittsburgh Conference (PITTCON) of Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (ACAS) for 37 years.

During their time together, Denton and Lois took sightseeing trips in Europe and cruises in the Caribbean and Hawaii. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, playing bridge, working outside in the yard, and watching the sunsets on Lake Erie at their cottage in Madison, Ohio. After retirement, Denton and Lois became snowbirds, traveling to their home in Florida during the winters and staying in the house that they built in Pittsburgh, PA in the summers.

Since 1958, Denton was a committed member of the Rosedale United Methodist Church. While in Florida, he attended the worship at the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora.

The family will have calling hours on Sunday, February 6th, 2022, from 2-4pm and funeral services on Monday, February 7th, 2022, at 11am at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home at 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio, 44077. Burial immediately following services at Riverside cemetery interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Denton's honor at a charity of your own choice.
