Obituary

Douglas A. Groves, age 64, passed away July 2, 2026, at Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord Township. He was born May 9, 1962, in Painesville to Paul E. Groves and Patricia Jane (Hubbard) Groves.

Douglas was a 1980 graduate of Riverside High School and Auburn Career Center. He worked as a Quality Engineer at Avery Dennison for 34 years, retiring in 2018. Doug and his wife, Andrea, “were never uncommon”, and were true soul mates. He helped his wife live her dream of operating a dog boarding kennel, Happy Tails Dog Resort. As a hobby, Doug had a repair shop and could repair or fix just about anything. His purchase of a plasma cutter brought out his creativity. He was a jack of all trades and a master of all, and most of all Doug had a wonderful sense of humor.

Doug loved riding his motorcycle and going to Sturgis in South Dakota. He also enjoyed taking cruises and traveling to the Finger Lakes, Florida, Saint Martin, and Rice Lake, Canada.

His greatest joy was spending time with his wife!

Doug is survived by his wife, Andrea (Lombardy) Groves; father-in-law, Andy Lombardy (Nancy); brother-in-law, Kirk (Roberta) Lombardy and his beautiful dog, Icelynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dogs, Casper, Blitz, Hootie, Bella, Foster, Peanut, Angel and most recently Bianka.

Friends and family will be received 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Funeral Services will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made, in Doug’s memory, to the Lake Humane Society, 7564 -E Tyler Blvd., Mentor, Ohio 44060.
