Elizabeth "Betty" Patience Hulsizer, age 88, of Painesville Township, passed away at David Simpson Hospice House, July 11, 2017. Betty was born October 9, 1928 in Plains, PA. to John and Florence (Sullivan) Knowles. Betty was a member of Painesville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Susan Moran and Carol (Steve) Sferra, grandchildren Trisha (Eric) Neate, Laura Rhodes, David Moran, Andrew (Amy) Sferra, Elizabeth (David) Franz, Daniel Sferra, 7 greatgrandchildren, and brother Chester Knowles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and brother, John Knowles.
Betty was well known as playground aid and crossing guard at Hadden School from 1969 – 2015, and was affectionately called "Crossing Guard Betty." In 2016 Hadden proudly dedicated the Buddy Bench in honor of her years of service. Betty had a great sense of humor and was well loved by her family as well as by students, teachers, parents, and staff, past and present, at Hadden. She loved her grandchildren, Frosties from Wendy's,, spirited domino games, lottery tickets, casinos, and family gatherings. Special thanks to the staff at Fresenius Dialysis Center in Mentor for the loving care they provided her the last year and a half of her life.
A celebration of life will be held 1:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the home of Trisha Neate, 12662 Girdled Road, Concord Township. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty's memory to Hospice of the Western Reserve. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
