Obituary

Elvira ("Ellie") Domenica Mucciarone Janz, who loved to be called "Nonna" or "Grandma" by her grandkids, departed her loving family on January 2, 2021 after a long battle with dementia, along with complications from COVID-19.

Elvira was born in Santa Angelo Grotto, Italy on July 4, 1948 to Addolorata and Biagio Mucciarone.  She immigrated to the United States at a young age in 1958 with her family and settled in Painesville, Ohio.

Elvira graduated from Harvey High School in 1968 and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Lake Erie College in 1980.  She used her degree to help students in Lake County schools, retiring in 2005.

As an author, teacher and artist, Elvira was known for her patience in teaching and tutoring and her attention to detail. Her hobbies included writing, painting, ballroom dancing and animal rescue.  She was most proud of her book Messenger of Love and Peace St. Pio of Pietrelcina: A Children's Biography.

She is survived by her husband of fifty years, William; her children, Eric (Kristina) Janz, Brian (Christina) Janz and Carla (Michael) Berkshire; and her grandchildren, John Perkins-Stafford, Lukas Janz, Benjamin Berkshire, Markus Janz, Leah Berkshire, Andrew Janz and Mataya Janz; and her sister, Nicolina (Ken) Stoneman.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Concord Township for immediate family.

Socially distanced visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.  Masks will be required.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or the American Heart Association (heart.org) may be made in Elvira's name.
