Frederick Best, age 89, passed away peacefully at his residence in Painesville, on March 3, 2023. He was born April 30, 1933, in Deadwood, South Dakota to Walter and Mildred (Winberg) Best.  He moved to Mentor, Ohio in his teens and spent the rest of his life enjoying the Ohio weather, unlike South Dakota, with its strong winds, bitter cold and golf ball size hail.

Fred was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as a Railroad Car repairman overseas. Upon his return he was hired at Lubrizol and worked in the maintenance department for 40 years.  He started at the Wickliffe plant then moved to the Painesville plant. He was very mechanically minded and enjoyed fixing things around the house in his retirement.

He also enjoyed fishing and went to a cabin in Canada every September with his son Mark and 3 of his grandsons.  We all thought they were roughing it until they confessed they were at a resort, had a Jacuzzi and a nice boat.

Fred is survived by his wife,  Josephine (Sellers) Best;  Son, Mark (Beth) Best;  Daughter, Cheryl (Tim) Ulle; Grandchildren, Brock (Tegan) Best, Brad Best, Nate Best and Matt (Jasmine) Ulle, Alex Ulle ; and Great Grand Children, Axton Best and Bria Ulle.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andrew, Lloyd, and Leroy (South Dakota); and Sister, Gladys Ellenbest (Florida).

We would like to extend our thanks to the Hospice of the Western Reserve Team that came to the house or were on the phone answering all our questions as we helped him reach the conclusion of his life's journey. We also appreciate all the assistance we were given by Jay Mulqueeney and his staff as we made decisions on his cremation plans.
