Harland Arthur White, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at his home in Madison, Ohio, surrounded by his family. He left this world exactly as he wished.
He was born on July 5, 1933, in New Lyme, Ohio, to Samuel Stuart White and Clara (Mills) White.
Harland spent much of his life as a hardworking truck driver, known for his determination to get every load delivered on time—or ahead of schedule. He drove a milk truck for many years and later worked for McKenzie Transportation.
In addition to his trucking career, Harland was always building, fixing, and “mousing” things together—often with creative results and, by the grace of God, never burnt the house down. After retirement, he began a second career in scrap metal, spending his days dismantling air conditioners and furnaces for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Even into his early 90s, he was hauling in 2,500 to 3,000 pounds of scrap each month. At age 91, he passed the business on to his grandson and proudly took on the role of “supervisor.”
Harland enjoyed time at The Backwoods Tavern with his friends, who meant the world to him. He would do anything for the people he cared about and was known for his humor and some of the best sayings and expressions you could ever hear. He never met a stranger. Whether sharing a laugh, a story, a piece of advice, or a helping hand, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, Harland had a deep and enduring faith in Jesus Christ. He believed in the Lord's goodness and carried that faith throughout his life. His willingness to help others, offer encouragement, and give the shirt off his back reflected the values he held dear. His faith brought him comfort and peace, and his family finds comfort knowing he is now at home with his Savior.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise (Rick) Aponte and Debbie Marcosson; stepdaughters, Lucinda Young and Rene Elliott; grandsons, Daniel White (Danielle) and Jason White (Monieka); great-grandson, Jaiden White; and siblings Sam White, Darrell White, Brian White, and Dora Hilbe.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Roberta L. White; his parents; brothers Sam, Charlie, Terry, and Bill White; and sister Vicki.
Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM. Burial will take place at Dodgeville Cemetery in New Lyme, Ohio.
