Mass of Christian Burial for John Emery Chebra, age 81, will be 10:00 AM , Friday at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 521 Plum Street, Fairport Harbor. Friends will be received from 5PM to 8PM,Thursday at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue in Painesville.
A Painesville resident, John was born March 1, 1935 in Fairport Harbor and passed away on July 5, 2016 at Homestead II Nursing Home in Painesville.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, the National Guard and the Army Reserve. John was a member of the Fairport Harbor VFW Post 7754, Painesville American Legion Post 336, Fairport Harbor Slovenian Club, and a life member of the Hungarian Culture Club, also in Fairport Harbor. John enjoyed polka music, Cleveland sports and was a long-time Brown's season ticket holder.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, John is survived by his wife, Janice (Taylor Chebra, whom he married on January 2, 1965. Children, John (Jayne) Chebra, Jeffrey Chebra, Jennifer Wojtaszek and Joanna (Chris) Schwartz. Grandchildren, Jessica Chebra and Jacob Wojtaszek. Sisters, Carol (Richard) Diemer and Lois (Ronald) Melin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John C and Margaret (Palko) Chebra and sister, Madeleine Farrell.
Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Painesville.
