John Clark Neal, age 81, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, went to be with Jesus Sunday, July 3, 2016. After a life time of loving God and honoring Him, John departed this earth peacefully, surrounded by friends. as he entered the promised peace with his Lord and Savior into whom he was born again at age 79. John was born July 21, 1934, in Oxford, Ohio, the second child of Frank F. Neal and Abbie Hoshour. Since John's father was a pharmacist, the family lived in numerous towns in Ohio, Indiana and the Carolinas before moving to Northeast Ohio when the sons were in high school. John graduated from Geneva, Ohio, High School and Youngstown University. He also attended Ohio Northern Pharmacy School. John served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. John was a kind, compassionate, highly intelligent and capable man. He attended the First Church of Christ in Painesville and the Willoughby Hills Friends Church for more than 20 years and loved the friends he made there. John was especially articulate and loved reading. Mr. Neal was employed by Cleveland Illuminating Company (CEI) for 27 years before his retirement, being in charge of obtaining and installing the electric street lighting for many of the municipalities surrounding Cleveland. He enjoyed working with the many mayors and council members, governmental groups and the CEI engineers to accomplish this task. John is survived by his long-time friend and companion, Doris (Dori) Mills of Painesville, sister-in-law, Miriam Neal, and many devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Frank Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at the S[pear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 667 Mentor Avenue Painesville, where services will be Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Painesville. David Tysinger, another friend of John's, will officiate at the services. Contributions, if friends desire, may be made to The First Church of Christ, 422 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Oh 44077, or to Willoughby Hills Friends Church, 2846 S.O.M. Center Road, Willoughby Hills, Ohio 44094.
