Obituary

John married Dorothy Harriet Miltner in 1939. They had two children Christine Noelle Nestor of Ormond-By-The Sea, FL and John F. (Christine Lynn Wichman) of Painesville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Teresa (Michael) Runyon, Eric (Jessica) Nestor, and Ryan (Regina) Wagner; and his great grandchildren, Jackson Runyon, Hazel Runyon, Tyler Wagner, and Joshua Wagner. John is preceded in death by his wife of 40 yrs., Harriet; Sister, Marion Cashmere; Brother, Frank Nestor, and his long-time companion, Georgia Johnson-Webster-Nagy. John entered the Army during World War II, and served his country as part of a special unit of 24 men trained in Tallahassee, FL, and then sent to the European Theatre where he participated in the Normandy Invasion. His diving unit was responsible for destroying bridges the enemy needed, or fixing the supports on bridges the allies needed. He grew up in Grand River and attended the local elementary school and graduated from Harvey High School. John was a lifelong sportsman. He excelled in swimming, boxing, hunting, bowling, and golf. At age 21 he was a middle-weight boxing champion. His favorite sport was golf, which he enjoyed into his later years, as a member of many clubs. As a boy, he was a caddie at Blackbrook Country Club, receiving 5 cents a hole; then winning tournaments there in later years. Upon returning to Lake County, he worked in the cement plant at the former Diamond-Shamrock. John later started his own company; Painesville Heating and Plumbing Co., which he ran and operated for over 60 yrs. He was a member of Plumbers Local Union 55 in Cleveland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve 5786 Heisley Road Mentor, OH 44060.
