October 11, 1958 - April 24, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Rendek, 67, of Painesville. John will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, step-father, brother, uncle, friend, and hero to so many.
John grew up in Painesville, Ohio, and was a proud graduate of Harvey High School. Following high school, he began his years of service to his country. He served in the Navy as a gunner's mate and continued his dedication through the Army National Guard and the Air Force Reserves until he retired in 2012.
John spent much of his life working as a nursery salesman, where his love for plants and impressive knowledge set him apart. He took pride in sharing what he knew, always eager to help others learn, grow, and find joy in the simple beauty of plants. He was known for his friendly nature, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and always having a good one-liner. John found joy in life's simple pleasures—especially spending time and traveling with his beloved wife, including many cruises together. He cherished time with his family, gathering over homemade Hungarian meals, sharing laughter, and playing silly games. He loved baseball and Cleveland sports and proudly shared that passion with his two sons. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed reminiscing with friends, woodworking, and sharing his artwork with those around him. John had a deep appreciation for blues music and was a devoted fan of B.B. King, proudly attending 12 of his concerts over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Rendek; his children, Aja Sill (Tom), Willie Rendek (Taylor), and Alexander Rendek; step-children, Bryan and Matt Russell; his brother, Louis Rendek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Rendek; mother, Mary Louise Rendek; stepfather, Donald Mackey; and sister, Mary McCrone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lake County Animal Shelter.
