A Memorial Service for José Oriol Tey will be 6 PM, Saturday June 20, 2020 at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Friends will be received 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home.

José was born March 23, 1933 in Baracoa, Cuba to Luis and Margarita (Frometa) Tey. He passed away June 10, 2020 at Tri-Point Medical Center in Concord Township.

During the Cuban Revolution, he was working as an electrician on a cruise ship. Unable to return to Cuba, he sought asylum in the US and began a new life here. José was an electrician and worked for RB&W Manufacturing in Cleveland for 40 years until they closed. He also worked for and retired from Woodhill Supply in Willoughby.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to all types of music, following current events and sharing funny stories from his past with his children and grandchildren. José (papi) was the kind of person who could see the humor in any situation and truly lived by the words of one of his all-time favorite songs: "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

José is survived by his wife of 52 years, Zully (Rincon) Tey and their five children; Allan Tey of Santa Fe, NM, Kenneth (Stacy) Tey of Painesville,  Nelsy (Andrew) Reimann of Mentor, Vanessa Tey (Jeremy) Iosue of Painesville and Thalia Tey (Ryan Scheucher) of Culpeper, VA; three children from a previous marriage, Luis Oriol (Maria) Tey of Cuba, Miguel (Mirta) Tey of Toronto, Canada and Aracelis Tey Piedra of Cuba; 101 year-old sister, Nidia Pineda of Union City, NJ; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
