Obituary

Joseph Ordell Stinson, Jr., son of Joseph and Betty Stinson was born on August 31, 1957, in Derry Township, PA and died on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.  He was a career employee of the United States Post Office serving the Perry and Geneva community for more than thirty (38) years. He served honorably for more than 8 years in the US Coast Guard where he received the Coast Guard Medal, the highest peacetime honor, as a result of his heroism in saving the life of one of his fellow shipmates.  He was a member of the North Perry Council.  He was a champion Golden Gloves lightweight boxer. Joseph was, for a time, an employee at the Perry nuclear plant. He loved music, played guitar and was a member of the Broken Strings Band, a local Perry Ohio group. He was, in the words of his daughter, "the greatest fisherman and hunter I've ever known!"  He was a true Pittsburgh Steelers fan although that was not considered endearing by all family members.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Alana of Perry, Ohio. Son, Joseph (Katie) Stinson of Jefferson; daughter, Carissa (Dan) Todd of Corpus Christi, TX; mother, Betty Stinson of Mentor; one sister Shelley (Bill) Stinson Isaacs of Madison; a brother Rudy from Texas and his uncle, Dan (Mary) Stinson of Ashland, KY and one adorable granddaughter, Annabelle Lee Stinson.

He is preceded in death by his father Joseph Stinson, Sr. Grandparents Ordell "Smokey" and Callie Ferris Stinson, and one brother, Troy.

The family will receive friends at the Lake Erie Church 2300 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 2pm to 6pm with funeral following.  Burial will be at Perry Cemetery on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 12:00pm noon.
