Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn E. Foster, age 91, will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Mary Church, 242 N. State St., Painesville, OH 44077. Mrs. Foster was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh). She passed away March 3, 2016 peacefully at home in Concord Twp. amongst family members. Mrs. Foster was a longtime Painesville area resident since 1956. She graduated from David Anderson High School in Lisbon, Ohio - Class of 1942.
Mrs. Foster was a defense worker at General Electric Company, Salem, Ohio during WWII. She soldered small light bulbs together which were assembled into instrument panels of USN ships and warplanes. She also served as a civilian employee of the Navy Dept. Headquarters 11th Naval District - San Diego during the Korean War. She went on to raise 8 children and also retired from Horne's Department Store at the Great Lakes Mall. She loved her job in women's wear and interaction with all her customers.
She enjoyed traveling nationally in a shiny 32' Airstream Trailer. She loved her family and Country and as usual with the Greatest Generation, considered every new day a blessing. Her latest hobby was knitting warm and colorful "Happy" hats for children and others. For years she loved spaghetti and meatballs at Dave Loparo's Pizza Parlor. Kathryn was also an avid reader.
Survivors are: Edwin (Carol) Foster of Middlefield, James Foster of Columbus, Patrick Foster of Columbus, Lewis Jr. (Mari) Foster of Stow and Frederick Foster and his fiancé Aylene Bern of Aurora; two daughters, Elizabeth Lang of Olympia, Wash., and Mary Ann (Gary Burns) Foster of Longmont, Colo.; a brother Craig O'Neil of San Diego; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She also had numerous friends, nieces and nephews whose prayers and charity she felt and appreciated. A Special Farewell to faithful friend John Palumbo and also her cat Lolly.
She was preceded in death by her son, John in 2006 and husband, Lewis in 2011. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00p.m. Monday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Foster's memory may be made to St. Mary Painesville 242 N. State St., Painesville, OH 44077, a parish into which Monsignor Gallena welcomed a Veteran, his wife and three children with open and charitable arms in 1956. It is in giving that we receive.
