Obituary

Kenneth John Wetzel passed on January 8, 2023, at Tri Point Hospital in Concord Township.  He was a resident of Continuing Healthcare in Mentor since 2017.  He was born to Paul A. and Jessie M. (DeLay) Wetzel on February 14, 1929, in Painesville OH.  He grew up in the Painesville area attending St. Clair Street and Madison Avenue schools, graduating from Harvey High School in 1947.

He married Helen Rose Kazsmer in 1948.  In 1956, they moved their young family to Madison, Ohio.  Ken resided in Madison until 1974, and then moved back to the Painesville area.  He married Margaret Fasula in 1977.

Ken worked for IRC Fibers "The Rayon" for 30 years.  He started in the lab and worked his way up to purchasing agent.  Purchasing became his niche.  From the Rayon, he went to work for The Hardware and Supply Company of Painesville, then Maaco Adhesives in Wickliffe and finally the Bicron Corp (now Saint Gobain) in Newbury, where he retired in 2005.  Bored with retirement Ken took a part-time job as a valet at Geauga UH Hospital until 2014.

Ken liked all sports, but golf was his favorite.  In his early years he bowled and golfed on several leagues in Madison and Painesville.  He also loved the sun.  You could find him lying (napping) in the sun on most sunny weekends.  When not napping he was tending to the pool, yard, and flower gardens.

He is survived by his wife Margaret (Fasula), son Kenneth Jr., grandsons Douglas (Katherine) Wetzel, Ronald (Kylie) Wetzel, Jr. and Adam Wetzel; granddaughter, Sarah (Gary) Likowski; seven great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Dennis Michael and Ronald Vernon Wetzel.
