Obituary

Lana E. Kuhar, age 83, passed away on March 28, 2025, at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland. She was born on January 9, 1942, in Canton, Ohio, to Alex Rocovitz and Anna (Grich) Rocovitz.

Lana dedicated her life to education. She graduated from Dayton University and earned a Master's Degree from Lake Erie College. She was an English teacher at Wickliffe High School for the majority of her career and taught for 33 years. Teaching reading was her greatest passion. She believed in the power of words and was devoted to helping her students develop a love for literature. She had a gift for inspiring young minds, earning recognition as a Jennings Scholar in 1978 and a recipient of Who's Who in American Education 1998.

In addition to teaching, Lana, along with her husband Ed, was a proud small business owner, operating Kuhar's Pizza Oven and Dairy Freeze, Apple Café, and Tree House Café. She was a dedicated supporter of the community by sponsoring schools and youth athletics and by generously donating to many local organizations. Through both her businesses and her classroom, Lana touched the lives of countless young people.

Lana was an avid reader, a love she maintained even after losing much of her sight, turning to audiobooks to continue enjoying literature. She found joy in lifelong learning and sharing stories with those around her. Most of all, she cherished time with her grandchildren, mentoring and guiding them with wisdom, warmth, and love.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (David) Fasula, Teresa Kuhar, Ed  Kuhar, Patty Kuhar, Debbie Kuhar, Cindy (Paul) Young, and Chuck (Janeel) Johnson; her brothers, Alex (Kathy) Rocovitz and Mark (Patti) Rocovitz; as well as her grandchildren, Sam, Max, Nate, Chelsea, Lauren, and other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lana was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Kuhar, in 2017; her sister, Shirley Belden; and her parents.

In keeping with Lana's wishes a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 242 North State Street, Painesville. A Private Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.
