Lawrence Dasch, 87, of Painesville passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at David Simpson Hospice House. Family and friends may call from 1-3 pm on Sunday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Services for Lawrence will be on Monday at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with burial following at Riverside cemetery.
Lawrence was born on August 4, 1928, in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late John and Mary Catherine Kopras Dasch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, to whom he was married for 49 years. Also preceding him in death were brothers John, Joseph, Leo, Frank, Stanley, Clement, and two sisters Ann Young and Gertrude Dasch.
Lawrence was Catholic by faith and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946-1948. He attended Miami University from 1949-1954 and graduated with a M.S. in Analytical Chemistry. While at Miami, he was a pitcher for the Miami University Tribe baseball team. He went on to play semi-pro baseball. Years later, he found great joy in coaching his son, Larry Jr., in Little and Senior League baseball.
Lawrence was employed as a chemical engineer by the former Diamond Alkali Co. in Fairport Harbor in 1954. He retired from Occidental Chemical Co. in 1986.
He is survived by daughters Susan (Dr. Donald) Pomeroy of Shelbyville, Kentucky, and Carolyn (Jon) Nickol of Cincinnati, Ohio, and son Dr. Larry Dasch, Jr., of Hillsdale, Michigan, grandchildren Sarah, Chris and Ryan Pomeroy, Matthew, Ben and Joshua Nickol, and Larkyn Dasch, and five great grandchildren.
He and Pauline enjoyed many years serving as volunteers at St. Gabriel Catholic Church as Heavenly Dusters. He and his family cherished summers fishing in Canada.
Many thanks to the staff at Kindred LakeMed for the care and friendship shown to our father at his home away from home. We would also like to thank the medical staff at University Hospitals Case Medical Center for their compassionate care. We will be forever grateful.
