Lawrence " Skip" Hylas Brewster, of Concord Twp., died Nov. 23, 2015, passing peacefully at his home, which he built in 1957, surrounded by his family. Skip was born May 23,1926, the son of the late Alvin "Blake" and Marion (Vesi) of Perry. Skip graduated from Perry High School and received his degree in teaching from Ohio State University. Skip was a math, physics, and science teacher for Summerfield High School in Noble County. He was their head basketball coach and took them to the State tournament. While teaching in Summerfield, he met his wife, Leatha (Havener). After they were wed, they moved back to Painesville where Skip took a job teaching at Riverside High School the first year it opened. Skip remained at Riverside until his retirement. Skip was the golf coach for Riverside High School for 25 years and was inducted into the Riverside High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also the only elementary physical education teacher for the Painesville township school system for 38 years. He was a master carpenter, a skill he learned from his father and which he has passed along to both of his sons. Skip was an active member of the Ohio Mayflower Society, The Ohio Society Founders and Patriots of America, Sons of The American Revolution, and the Painesville Moose Lodge 490. Skip was proud of his Mayflower heritage and was able to document his heritage back to William Brewster, Richard Moore, and William Bradford. Skip is survived by his sons, Blake of Atlanta, GA, Brad and his wife Vanessa (Van Driest) and three grandchildren, Bond, Braden and Bryce of Chardon. He also leaves behind three brothers, Robert, Lee (Cynthia) and John (Dorothy) and many loving nieces and nephews. Skip was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Nathan; wife, Leatha and grandson, Brodie. Skip was an avid golfer and knife collector who also loved playing pool with his friends at the Moose as well as sitting with his dogs listening to opera. Skip had a great appreciation for nature and a reverence for all creatures, great and small.
