Obituary

Lee Nelson Devney passed away September 12, 2014, at Emeritus Newell Creek. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends in his final hours. Lee was born August 12, 1931, in Painesville, to Lee and Marion (Kelley) Devney. He attended St. Mary's Painesville Harvey High school (class of 1949) where he met lifelong, loving friends. After high school, Lee attended Ohio University prior to serving in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning, he went to work for the family business, Devney's Men's Wear, a haberdashery in Painesville. If you needed a new suit or formal wear, Devney's was THE place for all your men's clothing needs. The store was a fixture in downtown Painesville for many, many years. In 1955, Lee married Margaret Jakupak, his high school sweetheart and they began their married life in Painesville. Margaret worked in Cleveland at General Electric in Nela Park where she met a group of wonderful friends. Lee became part of "the GE Group" who has met monthly for the past 61 years. In 1960, they welcomed twins, Elizabeth Marie and Edward Lee. Elizabeth still resides in Painesville with Lee's grandson, Donald Joseph "DJ" Peters, and Edward lives in New York City. All survive him in death. Lee was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Painesville where he was a Eucharist Minister and also involved in a number of parish organizations, including St. Vincent DePaul. For years he volunteered at Lake East Hospital and later TriPoint Medical Center. His parents, Lee and Marion, wife Margaret and brother Donald of Scottsdale, Ariz., precede him in death. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville, OH, 44077. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Monday, September 15, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 242 N. State St., Painesville. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
