Mass of Christian Burial for Lewis E. Foster, age 85, will be 11 a.m. Monday at The Church of St. Mary, 401 North St., Chardon, OH 44024. Mr. Foster was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Lisbon and had lived in Mentor, OH 44060. He passed away Feb. 23, 2011, at the Dolan Center of Heather Hill in Chardon.

He graduated from David Anderson High School in Lisbon, Class of 1943, and received his bachelor's degree in accounting cum laude from Ohio University in 1950. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees as a Corpsman with the 112th Naval Construction Battalion on Tinian and Okinawa (www.112thseabees.com). He retired in 1987 after 37 years of employment as a financial analyst with the General Electric Company at the Highland Road Lamp Glass Plant and Nela Park. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, riding his motorcycle, trailering with his family in his Airstream, and spending the last 10 years visiting his Seabee and Marine shipmates. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors are his wife, Kathryn (O'Neil) Foster; five sons, Edwin (Carol) Foster of Middlefield, James (Jeanette) Foster of Columbus, Patrick Foster of Columbus, Lewis Jr. (Mari) Foster of Stow and Frederick Foster of Painesville; two daughters, Elizabeth Lang of Maple Valley, Wash., and Mary Ann (Gary Burns) Foster of Longmont, Colo.; six grandchildren, Eva and David Hillman, Colin Lang, Hallie and Kyle Foster, Mary Ann Foster, Leslie and Joseph Cole; and great-grandson, Thomas Hillman.

He was preceded in death by his son, John in 2006.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. Contributions in Mr. Foster's memory may be made to the USO in support of our troops.
