Obituary

A memorial mass will be said at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 316 Fifth St. Fairport Harbor, OH for Mary Ann Gavelda on Saturday, November 12th at 11a.m. Friends and family will be received at the church 1 hour before.

Mary Ann Gavelda (nee Arp) was born June 19, 1933, was a lifelong resident of Painesville and Fairport Harbor.   She passed away on October 26, 2022 after an extended illness. Mary Ann graduated from Harvey High School in 1951 and received a degree in engineering from Lakeland Community College in 1986.

Mary Ann worked for years at Lake County National bank and at the Perry Nuclear power plant/CEI, where she established their credit union and later worked as a quality control engineer.  After retiring she volunteered extensively for the local school system, Saint Mary's church, and St. Anthony Church in Fairport. She was former president of the Saint Mary Mother's club, the Harvey High school PTA, the Pompeii Society and led the bereavement lunch group. She will be forever remembered as a positive, caring, and giving person, and the best mom and grandmother ever.

Mary Ann is survived by two sons.  Stephen Ames (Ann Marie, Deceased) and his three sons Alex, Daniel, and Nolan of Ashburn Virginia, and Lawrence Ames (Teresa) of Ashland Ohio and his sons Grant (Shannon) and Zac, and one other grandson, Nick Ames . Mary Ann also leaves one brother, James Arp of Columbus.

She also leaves four stepchildren, Cindy Tilson of Austinburg, James Gavelda (Donna) of Lewis Center, Tina Presley of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Lori Dockter (Nathan) of Utah,  and grandchildren Rachel (Kevin) Kluk, Jacob (Sarah) Dockter ,Caleb, Jordan, Kaylee, and Sydney Doctker, and great grandson Parker Kluk.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband James Gavelda, (1st Husband Bob Ames), Grandfather Lee Bertone, Parents Jay and Carmie Arp, Two sons, Robert (Lou) Ames and Ron Ames.  She can now join them and be at peace in her final resting place.
