Mary Louise
Hawkins
August 11, 1932 – May 10, 2026
Mary Louise Hawkins age 93, moved to heaven on May 10, 2026, from Painesville, Ohio. She was born on August 11, 1932, in Lake City, Tennessee to Mitchell Foust and Vera Myrtle (Leach) Johnson.
Mary Louise was an extraordinary homemaker and enjoyed playing Scrabble and working puzzles with her family and friends. Living in Mentor on the Lake for most of her life, she was always involved with her children and grandchildren; be it with school functions or events including music or her favorite sport which was basketball.
She volunteered for the March of Dimes many years, served as a Sunday School teacher, and was active in the Willoughby Chapter of the Eastern Star as President of the Ladies Daytime Auxiliary. She found joy in preparing and delivering food to those in need and making fudge to add as a sweet touch.
Growing up in the South, she used her beautiful voice in church, school and on live radio shows singing anything from popular music of the time and with Gospel quartets. Even in her final days, she would sing along with familiar songs.
Mary Louise is survived by her daughter, Diana Zarlenga of Fairport Harbor and her granddaughter, Heather Lyn (Homero) Ontiveros, as well as her great-grandsons, Tiago and Mateo Ontiveros of Painesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Hawkins, and her son, Hoyt Hawkins, along with her parents and siblings.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Her final resting place, near her beloved husband and her cherished son will be in Willoughby Memorial Gardens in Willoughby, Ohio. In lieu of contributions or flowers, please pass on love and kindness daily.
Her family wishes to express their gratitude to all the angels working at The Cottage, Homestead II in Painesville and the Western Reserve Hospice Care.
