February 27, 1929 – April 13, 2016
A celebration of life and Mass of Christian Burial for Nicholas M. Lombardy, age 87, will be 10:00 am Monday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd. Concord, OH. Friends will be received from 3:00pm to 7:00 pm Sunday at the Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home 667 Mentor Ave. Painesville, OH.
A lifetime Painesville resident, Nick was born on February 27, 1929 and passed away on April 13, 2016 at Kindred Care/Lake Rehabilitation Facility in Painesville.
Nicholas graduated from Harvey High School and served in the U.S. Navy participating in the Korean Conflict. He was a firefighter for the City of Painesville from 1958 until he retired in 1981 as a Lieutenant, and owned and operated Lombardy Carpet Installation in Painesville.
Mr. Lombardy was a founding member of St. Gabriel Church where he served as an usher for nearly 50 years, and served on the Worship Commission. He was also a life member of the Elk's Lodge 549 in Painesville where he participated in the lodge golf and bowling leagues. Nick enjoyed fishing in Canada and gardening, but his greatest joy was his family especially his moments with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
He is survived by, his wife, Joanne E. (Schurk) Lombardy, whom he married on June 2, 1956; his son, John from Aledo, Texas and daughter, Lisa (Timothy) Cannon of Painesville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Geoff (Bonnie) Cannon, Sarah (fiancé Jared Eichhorn) Cannon, Laura (Steve) Crea, Andrew Lombardy, Nick Lombardy and great-granddaughter, Reagan Quinn Cannon. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters, Marie Puleo, Geraldine Ace, Judy (Jack) Bradenbaugh, Rita (Jerry) VanNess; and brothers, Andrew (Nancy) and Charles (Donna) Lombardy, and many nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Lombardy, brother, Donald Lombardy and sisters, Theresa Fleming and Dolores Bradenbaugh.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Lombardy's memory may be made to the St. Gabriel Food Bank, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd. Concord, OH 44060
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.
