"Patty" Mackey
June 10, 1935 – March 5, 2023
Patricia Ann Mackey, age 87, passed away March 5, 2023, in Kirtland, Ohio. She was born June 10, 1935, in Fairport Harbor to Margaret (Miller) and Walter Mackey.
She was a life-long Fairport Harbor resident. She lived and cared for her mom, for many years until her mom passed. After that, she stayed in the family home. Patty always said, "My mom always told me…smile and the world smiles with you." And Patty always had a beautiful smile on her face.
Patty's first job was with the Diamond Alkali Recreation Department, and she was the Diamond Shamrock Credit Union manager for many years. She was also the Clerk of Painesville Municipal Court from 1981 until 1990, under Judge Gilbert Cave. She then went to work for Judge Fred Skok at Lake County Probate Court in the Marriage Department, retiring in 2016.
Patty was very involved Lake County politics and was also involved in the election campaigns for many candidates. She was a Democrat Precinct Committee person for several years, was a very active member of the Eastern Lake County Democratic Club and was also a member of the Lake County Democratic Party Central Committee. Patty was also on the Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras Committee, serving as it's secretary and president. She was the parade organizer for many years. She was involved in the Fairport Senior Center and was a longtime board member and advocate for the seniors of Lake County. She forged new partnerships between the Council on Aging and other agencies providing benefits to Lake County citizens. In 2014 Patty received the Ruth A. Densmore Senior Advocate Award. She also received the Liberty Bell Award from the Lake County Bar Association.
Patty was involved in the Meals on Wheels Program, was a LakeTran Board Member, Lake Metropolitan Housing Authority Board Member, served on the Fairport Harbor Tree Committee, President of the Fairport Harding High Alumni Association and served on the Fairport Harbor Historical Society Board. She was also a very active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was a Eucharist Minister, member of Parish Council, member of the Altar and Rosary Society and worked on numerous events and fund-raising efforts for the Church.
Patty didn't just belong to clubs and organizations, she was a worker, and put her heart and soul into everything she did.
Patty is survived by her cousin, Louise (David) Wayner.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Mackey, mother, Margaret (Miller) (Mackey) Saloky and her stepfather, John Saloky.
Friends will be received 2:00-4:00 PM, Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Mulqueeny -Spear Funeral Home, 312 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 13, 2023, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 315 Fifth Street, Fairport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
