Obituary

Richard E. (Dick) Maltby, 90, of Painesville, passed away on February 8, 2025, at the Cottage Assisted Living. Born on April 4, 1934, in East Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Cowley) Maltby.

Dick moved to Mentor in 1948 and graduated from Mentor High School in 1952. Over the years, he held many jobs, including butcher, car porter, mailman, furniture salesman, department store buyer, and boat mechanic, before retiring from Lubrizol in 1996. He proudly served two tours in the United States Army. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Carolyn, and together they adopted and raised two children, Timothy and Liisa.

Dick is survived by his son, Timothy Maltby; grandsons, Cole and Colin Maltby; daughter, Liisa Maltby (Mike Pohto); brother, Robert E. Maltby Jr.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Maltby, and his beloved wife, Carolyn Mae Maltby.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave, Painesville, with a service to follow at 6:30 PM.

His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
