July 5, 1930 – May 11, 2021
Richard E. Shupp of Painesville Township, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2021 at his residence, surrounded by his wife and loving family.
Born July 5, 1930 in Geneva, OH, he had been a resident of Lake County for more than 77 years.
At an early age, he enjoyed working with his dad at Shupp's Grocery. From there he worked at Laub's Baking, delivering bread to restaurants. He then went on to work at Lockie Lee Dairy and retired in 1994 from the U. S. Postal Service where he worked as a mail carrier.
Richard was a proud U. S. Marine Corps veteran (1950 – 1953). Semper Fi. Richard was a graduate of Thomas W. Harvey High School (1948).
He belonged to the American Slovenian Club and enjoyed playing bocci. He was a lifetime member of the Hungarian Culture Club and a lifetime member of VFW Post 7754. He enjoyed cooking fish during Lent, and he also helped with many functions. Richard enjoyed making wine and sharing it with friends. He also enjoyed gardening and said he grew the best tomatoes and shared his vegetables with neighbors and friends.
He loved the Boston Red Sox and had a special liking to Ted Williams. Richard was an avid bowler at MarVal Lanes and went on many bowling tournaments at a young age. In fact, he even set pins at MarVal Lanes as a teenager.
Richard was the beloved husband of Rose (Cardina) Shupp and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year. Richard and Rose were married on February 12, 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rose; loving sisters, Karen Cadwell of Mentor and Deanna (Bill Venditti) of Fountain Hills, Arizona; his sisters-in-law, Grace Shupp (Dean) and Jerry (Cardina) Moritz, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews, and especially his great-great niece and nephews, Rylee Kish, Evan Kish, and Robert (Robbie) Michael Yanoscsik.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret (Nogrady) Shupp and father, Emmett Dean Shupp, as well as six sisters and five brothers.
Special thanks to Debbie and Sue of Visiting Angels, Grace Hospice of Mentor and to his wonderful neighbors Bill, Adam, Scott, and Kyle, who were at his beck and call.
Funeral Services for Richard will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio. Friends will be received 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Sunday, May 16th at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the Marine Corps League, 8720 Twinbrook Drive, Mentor, OH 44060.
