(Seese) Hayes
November 5, 1936 – February 27, 2023
Shirley A. Hayes, age 86, passed away February 27, 2023, at her residence in Concord Township after a long battle against dementia. She was born November 5, 1936, in Masontown, Pennsylvania to Denzil and Elva (Jackson) Seese and then moved to Rosemont, West Virginia. Shirley was raised in a very large and happy family as a Coal Miner's Daughter.
While visiting her sister Mabel in Ohio she met the love of her life Ed and was married for 68 ½ years. Shirley raised 3 children and was a homemaker, her many talents included quilting, crocheting, embroidery and decorating for all Holidays. She enjoyed collecting Longaberger Baskets, China Tea Cups and antique glassware. While living in Texas for a brief period, she was homemaker of the month! She also enjoyed bluegrass music and traveled to many Blue Grass Festivals in their RV. She was a member of the former Concord Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, Past Painesville City Schools PTA President, and Boy Scout Den Mother.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Edmond Hayes; daughter Beckie (Don) Pesta, sons, Gary (Tina) Hayes and Edmond (Roberta) Hayes; grandchildren, Dwayne (Katie) Hayes, Edmond (Cindy) Hayes, Nick (Liz) Hayes, Thomas Hayes, Kelsey (Colton) Luther, Zach (Taiylor) Hayes, Alex (Sarena) Hayes, Linda (Kevin) Pesta and Marshall Pesta; great grandchildren, Bayleigh Hayes, Ryleigh Hayes, Austin Grzesikowski, Eve Pesta, Zane Pesta, Emili Pesta and Blasé Pesta; brothers, Robert (Sheila) Seese and Bill (Connie) Seese and sisters-in-laws, Mary Seese, Nancy Seese, Debbie Seese and Laverne Hayes; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Denzil Seese Jr., Daniel Seese and James Seese and sisters, Thelma (Weldon) McCauley, Audra (Raymond) Blake, Mabel (George) Davis, Bertha Seese, Baby Seese, Agnes Seese, and sister-in-law, Brenda Seese.
The Family would like to thank the Western Reserve Hospice staff for the loving care they provided during her last weeks of life.
Friends will be received 1:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 6, 2023, at the funeral home.
