Thomas Spence, age 70, of Painesville, Ohio, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2026, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Born on July 31, 1955, in Painesville, Tom lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a passion for teaching. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend whose influence will continue to be felt for generations.
Though he will be greatly missed, his family finds comfort in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and rejoices in knowing he is now in the presence of his Savior.
For forty-seven years, “Coach” faithfully served as a teacher at Mentor Christian School, where he inspired countless students with his love of history and his enthusiasm for helping them see God's hand at work throughout the events of the world.
Some of his fond memories were made during summers spent painting with his brother. The long days of work strengthened a lifelong friendship and created stories that would be shared for years to come.
A devoted member of Bible Community Church, Tom lived out his faith daily and sought to point others toward Christ through both his words and actions. His commitment to teaching extended beyond the classroom, as he also faithfully taught Sunday school.
He enjoyed photography and could often be found capturing the beauty of God's creation through his camera lens. He especially loved taking day trips and making memories with his beloved wife, Cindy. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family. He was a loving father to his daughters and a proud grandfather who delighted in his three grandchildren. Some of his greatest joys came from playing games, laughing, and engaging in heartfelt talks.
Thomas is survived by his mother Judith Spence, his wife of 47 years, Cindy (Breedlove) Spence; daughters, Amber (Edward) Myers, Hanna Spence, and Natalie Spence; grandchildren, Veronica, Caleb and Annabeth; sisters, Linda (Jim) Wiser, Sue (Bert) Avalos, and Stephanie (Mark) Spence Glover; brothers, John (Linda) Spence and Stephen (Susie) Spence. He is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Hester Spence, and sister Christine.
