Valasta M. Smith, age 99, passed away December 19, 2022, in Concord Township, Ohio.  She was born November 12, 1923, in Piggott, Arkansas to Thomas A. and Ada (Ward) Gilkison.

Valasta worked for the Lake County Board of Elections for over 23 years.  She was a member of First Church Congregational and was active in Painesville Elks Lodge #549.

She enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader.

Valasta is survived by her son, William (Joyce) Smith; grandchildren, Lisa (Josh) Lunt and Matthew (Lindsey) Smith and Amanda (Mike) Towne; daughter-in-law, Vivian Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Smith Sr.  in 2004; sons, Thomas A. Smith and Donald E. Smith Jr.; sisters, Eunice (Paul) Elliott, Lorene (Blake) Ward; Zelma (Howard) Boyd and Beatrice (Ulyss) Hancock; and her parents.
