A memorial service for Winnie L. Betteley, age 90, will be 2:30 PM Saturday April 1, 2017, at Spear Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, OH. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Betteley was born January 1, 1927 in London, England and passed away March 12, 2017 at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.
Winnie survived a tough childhood, growing up in war-torn London amidst poverty, rationing, and bombings. It is there that she met husband, Jim, and returned home with him to Ohio. Winnie enjoyed being with her many friends and her family. She was a "people person" who was employed as a waitress at Carlisle's for 25 years. A favorite place was the beach, and she spent 30 years living in Clearwater, Florida.
She is survived by her sister, Irene (Louis) Ledenican; her son, Gary (Susan) Betteley; daughter Debbie (Merle) Hanna; son, Kirk (Pat) Betteley; 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, James Clare Columbine and Maude Ada Smith; siblings, Kathleen, Eileen, George, and Sheila; husband, James Betteley in 1990; husband, Larry Caroe in 2006; son, Richard Betteley in 2010, and grandson, Jeff Betteley in 2015.
