Arnold Snyder Obituary

Arnold (Arnie) Snyder died unexpectedly the morning of Friday, January 30, 2026.  He has received his reward, was welcomed by his Heavenly Father, and is now in God’s presence, no longer beleaguered by his earthly life’s infirmities.

Arnie was born August 18, 1944, in San Francisco, California, to Wilbur and Naomi Snyder, who predeceased him while he was still a young man.  He was also predeceased by his sisters, Betty Ann (Bob) Evans and Anita (Jim) White.

Arnie is survived by his loving wife, Karen, who was “Still the One” until his dying breath.  They married at St. James Lutheran Church, Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19, 1963.

He is also survived by their loving children David (Freda) Snyder of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, Kathy (Bill) Summy of Ravenna, and grandchildren Emily (Enrique) Caraballo of Brooklyn, and Jenna (Caleb) Majcen of Ravenna.

Arnie dearly loved his family and will be greatly missed by them and by his numerous friends in the many circles in which he traveled during his life.

He grew up in the Collinwood area of Cleveland, raised their children in Willoughby, and lived the last half of his life in Leroy after building a log cabin.

Arnie was a meatcutter, by trade, and a Christian, at heart and action.  He began his trade helping feed people as a teenager and retired from Pick-n-Pay / Finast / Tops in 2008 to their 40-acre farm, where he loved to garden and cut grass.  His skills and hobbies were many, including woodworking, where he made many heirloom pieces for family.  He enjoyed camping, until they discovered Sunset Beach, North Carolina, which was their vacation spot for decades.  He was a great cook and baker, creating many tasty treats for family and friends.  He was known for lavish fruit baskets, apple cake, pumpkin rolls, and Christmas cookies.  He loved Elderberry pie baked by his wife and daughter. He loved playing games, especially Dominos, with wife, daughter, and grandkids on Sunday afternoons.

Arnie practiced his faith most of his life at St. James Lutheran, Cleveland, Advent Lutheran, Mentor, St. James Episcopal, Chardon, and Zion Lutheran, Fairport Harbor.  He served God in many capacities as congregational leader and, most recently, as Funeral Meals Coordinator.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 5, 2026, at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Eagle Street, Fairport Harbor, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am. Pastor Frederick Johnsen will be officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, Painesville.
